The Gallagher Charitable Trust is committed to strengthening communities across Aotearoa New Zealand, with a primary focus on supporting initiatives within the Greater Waikato region. Established by the family behind Gallagher Group, the Trust continues a long-standing commitment to community contribution. Through sustainable investment and thoughtful giving, we support organisations and projects that create meaningful, lasting benefit.

Our Funding Approach

We fund initiatives that deliver clear and measurable community benefit. While we do not operate under strict priority categories, we typically support projects that:

  • Strengthen community wellbeing

  • Advance education and learning opportunities

  • Support health and social services

  • Build community capability and resilience

  • Enhance facilities and infrastructure for community use

Geographic Focus

The Trust primarily funds community initiatives within the Greater Waikato area.

Applications from outside this region may be considered where there is a strong connection to Waikato communities or demonstrated regional benefit.

Each application is considered on its individual merits, with careful attention given to community impact, sustainability, and alignment with our charitable purpose.

We welcome applications from:

  • Registered charities

  • Incorporated societies and not-for-profit organisations

  • Community groups and clubs

  • Educational institutions and schools

Applicants must:

  • Operate on a not-for-profit basis

  • Deliver outcomes within New Zealand

  • Demonstrate sound governance and financial viability

  • Provide reporting on any previous grants received from the Trust

We do not fund:

  • Individuals

  • Political activities

  • Retrospective costs

  • Overseas travel or activities

Grant Amounts

There is no fixed minimum grant amount.

For grants over $20,000, a more detailed application process is required. Please contact us directly to discuss your proposal before submitting an application.

Funding Rounds

The Trust operates two funding rounds each year.
Specific opening and closing dates will be published on our website and application portal.

Our Commitment

We value partnerships built on trust, transparency, and shared purpose. Successful applicants are required to provide accountability reporting outlining how funds were used and the outcomes achieved.Over more than 40 years, the Gallagher Charitable Trust has supported organisations such as Hospice Waikato and University of Waikato, alongside many other initiatives that enrich life across the Waikato.
